working offline

in the long run an app like this should work offline. I must have access to my data at all times in order to be able to work with it in a meaningful way. From trains without WiFi to use in the wild, there are many places where internet connection is not possible or at least problematic

Agree with everyone, this is a must have feature - happy it's in progress!
That said, I would like to propose that syncing data offline should be optional per device. I do not trust companies. I would LOVE the ability to say, "Hey Capacities, don't sync data offline on my work machine, but do sync data on my personal machine."
OR, possibly encrypt the data locally. I'd really prefer to not have my sensitive data synced to my work laptop in plain text for them to scan and read through in their free time.
Thanks!

Hi!
We just published a roadmap towards offline support. If you're interested, you can read about it here: https://docs.capacities.io/misc/offline-support

Steffen Bleher Brilliant, thank you for the update Steffen!
I just noticed 2 potential typos that you might want to check:
- ”"Fail save syncing" -> "“Fail-safe syncing"?
- Under "Better local search" I assume you mean "...all the features of online search"?

Steffen Bleher it looks very promising! You guys are on the path to the stars!
Do you have any timeline for those upcoming features?

Essential for a serious knowledge tool, glad to see it's in progress.

I agree. Offline mode is always needed.
I can't wait to have an offline mode, hopefully.

I have way too many important notes in capacities, it has become an indispensable part of my workflow and day to day. Productivity would take a massive hit if it was unavailable during the core work hours.

I want this application to work offline and be able to import/export data like word, excel... And there should be a mobile version. As I said, this application is like 1 word + excel

100% agree. Reliable robust Offline use is essential on all local platforms (laptop, tablet and phone) If comms gets dropped (eg on a train) the user should not be aware that anything has happened unless expecting some comms-unavailable data to be served
I also think reliable phone access is a core product requirement even if just as a means of collecting data when out and about. In my head thoughts can be very fleeting and any delay in capturing often means a thought lost!! 😳

note ... just today for a short while (10 mins or so) i lost internet at home and capacities just stopped working .. as soon as internet came back on all started working again ... pretty annoying! esp as 4 other note/pkm apps continued almost seamlessly . So ... offline working is essential imo.

A few days ago, the system was off. It was so annoying for anyone who transfered all work to capacities like me. This progress should be thought as a must.

I second offline support. Would prefer my data to exist locally/offline and then just sync across devices instead of feeling I'm accessing an online portal through an (electron) app. Very important to have access to ALL data at ALL times, so an offline solution where it just keeps some items locally would not be viable.

That is a big step. Looking forward to working offline in the near future.
