Spaces 2.0: Enhanced Spaces Organization & multi-space workflows
michael_v_h
Implement a more robust organization system for spaces, such as specific folders or tagging with physical space separation within the visual UI layout hierarchy, to allow for better compartmentalization of professional and personal spaces. This would facilitate a work-life balance boundary system, making it easier to navigate and reduce clutter, making it more manageable to scale the number of business-related projects and personal-related goals within the same account.
Additional improvements/related solutions:
- Customization and Personalization Features: Allow further customization options for spaces, such as color coding, to enhance visual differentiation and organization. There is color customization within objects; why not with spaces within the home page? This would help in quickly identifying and navigating between different spaces and projects.
- Multiple Account Support with Easy Switching: Another possible solution is to introduce the ability to maintain separate accounts for professional and personal use, with an easy switch mechanism similar to Discord or Notion. This would allow users like myself to segregate work and life within Capacities without compromising on the convenience or efficiency of use. However, this can be improved by implementing the above-proposed solutions for user convenience instead.
- Cross-Space Templates: Lastly, implementing a template system that allows users to create, save, and reuse templates across unrelated external spaces rather than just within the internal space would drastically improve workflow efficiency. This feature would enable users to employ a standardized research template for documenting within a custom wiki or a story arc outline that can be easily copied and pasted into any other space. Currently, the need to recreate tags, objects, collections, and templates for each new space from scratch significantly hampers productivity. With this proposed solution, users could immediately dive into their core activities, such as researching or creating, without the repetitive setup process, thereby streamlining the creative and organizational processes across the platform.

Ability to open spaces in their own windows

Switching spaces in a single window can be distracting. Sometimes, you lose context because you may be working on things belonging to different spaces at once, maybe you need to do a quick check or add an entry to another space. This is one of two scenarios where I find Obsidian more convenient than Capacities. Having the ability to open multiple windows (for different spaces) would be a perfect solution.

Have multiple spaces open?

I understand that spaces are completely separate domains, but I often want to have multiple spaces open at the same time. It's not very convenient to have to switch back and forth, find the view you were in, etc. It would be nice to have either multiple windows or some kind of tabbed UI to more easily work in multiple spaces without losing one's place.

+Add the ability to have different Spaces in Split View
I think that would be pretty great for "Space 2.0", and if it's not "too difficult", it could help us currently for copy/paste object to a different Space (because right now, it's far from easy 😭)

Came here to add this request and found it here with little traction. Not sure why! This seems like a pretty standard feature for PKMs! Hoping the Capacities team sees this even though it is fairly low on the polls.

Ability to move objects from one space to another

Is it possible to copy or move contents from one space to another? Sometimes you just want to have it moved to a more dedicated space.

I would love to have this feature. Sometimes things get out of hand and necessitate an unplanned, dedicated space. Perhaps we can create objects with the same properties, so we can seamlessly transfer the contents directly to the new space.

great!
some ('lots' 😀) of additional ideas and aspects for consideration here 👉 https://discord.com/channels/940596022344843336/1214573341755580476/1215626289126572063
(I refrain from copying over to avoud clogging)
also, I think this ticket is kind of doubling this, w/o covering some of the 'posts' / points in there:
(also, after Stef Jones merged this the title 'Ability to copy / transfer entities to other spaces' itself loses some of the aspects of the content merged under this twin-ticket, IMO)

so excited for this!
I agree the first solution will be more convenient than multi-account solution. Because multi-account will mean subscription being restricted to only 1 account.
