Side Panel improvements

Here are couple of thoughts on improving it:
- Add side panel button to toolbar and hotkey to toggle it on/off
- Add ability to drag-n-drop block elements from page to panel and vice versa
- Global Reference Panel:
- Make the right side panel available globally, not just on specific tabs.
- Allow the panel to float.
- Save and Name Panels:
- Enable the right side panel to be saved and named.
- Create a library of curated panels as objects with properties and metadata.
- UI and Accessibility:
- Increase visibility and accessibility in the UI.
- Allow instant saving of any open object to the panel.
- Enable quick pinning items from the graph.
- Search and Filtering:
- Make the open set within the panel searchable.
- Add dynamic filtering and sorting capabilities.
- Shortcuts and Navigation:
- Implement shortcuts to cycle through the stack.
- Smart Queries and Annotations:
- Link the stack to smart queries.
- Mark special roles for annotations to appear in the stack.
- Special Object Classes:
- Display specially marked-up classes of objects in the stack for easy reference.
- Curated Search Results:
- Use the panel for displaying curated search results.
- Allow exporting of stacks (PDF, MD/Textbundle, folders).
- Embedded Views:
- Allow embedded web views within the panel.
- Renaming and Differentiation:
- Rename the side panel to be more descriptive and inviting.
- Differentiate between pins in the left sidebar and right stack bar.
- Flexible Spatial Set-ups:
- Enable flexible spatial set-ups for larger screens and multi-screen environments.
- Onboarding and Documentation:
- Feature the panel more prominently in onboarding, documentation, and tutorials.
- Encourage collective reflection and discussion about the panel's development.
- Mutually Exclusive Panels:
- Ensure the right object sidebar and stack bar are mutually exclusive, not swapped.
- Pinning Differentiation:
- Differentiate between 'pinning' on the left and right side panels.
- Possibly rename left sidebar 'bookmarks' or 'favorites.'
- Group Knowledge Sharing:
- Explore group knowledge studio features for defined groups such as families or project teams.
- Integrate session-based curatorial knowledge panel for group settings.

Going to add this here, apologies if it's already in this very long thread full of other ideas: I'd like to have the same object open in the main and the side panel at the same time, so the focus can be in different areas of the content. I'll often be jotting down thoughts which I then turn into a document, so it's gradually being refined from random bullets into a written document. If I want to jump between notes and written text I need to navigate around a lot or split into another object. If Capacities could do what MS Word calls 'split' by using the side panel to focus on another part of the same object it would be useful.

Side panel should be independent of tabs

Michael Jasper
I find it odd that the state of the side panel is part of a particular tab, so that as I switch tabs, the side bar appears and disappears. Typically I open the side bar to keep something in view while I'm working such as the daily calendar. I don't want to have to reopen it every time I go to another tab. Perhaps this behavior could be an option.

Actually, for me that's a very useful feature I've been using since the beginning.
It means I can have different stuff in the sidebar depending on what I'm working on in a tab.
What OP wants to do might be better served with adding the ability to Capacities to be open in multiple
browser
tabs & windows and then having these side by side on your screen.M

Marjan VenemaOr perhaps this behavior could have a setting to choose the user preference.

Michael Jasper yes, that would work too. :)
I'd advise to keep current behaviour the default. Yes, obviously that's a bit of self-interest :) but it's also a good practice in line with the 'rule' of least surprise

also a new separate ticket of one of the aspects mentioned in here is this:

vision assemblies
👆 – this is important to bring Capacities over to also cater to a logic of work session and flows, and out of an overemphasis on 'hyper-intelligent database' metaphor.
BTW: this request is already part of this larger ticket on a general substantive advancement of the sidepanel, and this is explicitly mentioned there, too.
– but good to also have this for seperate + additional vote.
then, anyone interested in supporting the
logics
of this further should also visit the encompassing ticket.v

also connected: improve readability of object titles in side panel:

laterally connected, as it is about the ways to populate / activate the sidepanel from within the workflow:

[ off-side note ] – kind of funny & interesting, how the heading FR obviously silently quotes a contribution that is from a later date (from Nov '23). Canny now, obviously has a worm hole & time warp function it seems 🤪 🕰️ 🌪️ 😅
v
vision assemblies
as an immediate improvement: include objects in side panel
