Random note/ randomize sorting

It would be interesting to have a feature that either pulls up a random note among a specific collection, or reorganizes notes randomly so that stuff that's kind of buried gets resurfaced. Think of it like having index cards in your hands and shuffling them to rediscover something you've been overlooking.

A Feature for resurfacing your notes

I don't know why it's not a common feature for all the PKM apps. Essentially, when you take notes on all the interesting stuff you come across, you need should review them to extract the benefits from them. Otherwise, you're just a collector not an implementer. We want to implement what we learn. Unfortunately, if you are like me you're a bit lazy with reviewing. Sometimes, you even forget you had a note about a topic. It would be really useful if you took a note about a topic and it randomly popped up in the daily journal section so you can reflect upon it further. Addition feature, can be to make this resurfacing planned rather than random. Would be helpful for spaced repetition for all the students.

We are super excited to share that we launched queries. With queries you can now create your own randomizers for notes, e.g. 10 random quotes. You can read about them in the latest release: https://capacities.io/whats-new/release-33
Here's a video on randomizing notes: https://youtu.be/37ayI_wAWUo

Steffen Bleher Yeay, I just wanted to request this feature ... and boom, it's already here. So cool - helps a lot to keep all notes useful - or delete them. Essential for a vivid second brain.

I just asked for that feature on the Discord channel of Capacities, not knowing about this request here. Thanks to user "lerone" I was made aware of it and I'm pleased that it's already planned.

I'll second this idea, and add some color. Capacities does a fantastic job at filing and connecting information. It's easy to search and browse for things you know you're looking for. But it lacks serendipity of discovering e.g. a random quote, inspirational image, or event that occurred in the past. An element of randomness is very important to ensure that all the great content added to one's Capacities database doesn't get buried or forgotten, and instead compounds value to one's life.

Cameron Flint: Love it, absolutely agree!! We have some cool ideas on this as well. Feel free to bring this up in the community, would be interesting to hear others thoughts :)

Steffen Bleher / Cameron Flint:
just to second this strongly! totally agree w/ Cameron – it´s some wisdom that all good PKM-systems are encountering at some point: good / productive knowledge systems need a trait of serendipity.
these can be differently put on a serendipity-scale: from pure random pop-ups + random sorting (see DevonThink and lots of others), to random 'walk-throughs' (see TheBrain´s 'wander'), to more controlled versions (I would put 'spaced repetition' here; see https://capacities.io/feedback/p/flashcards-and-spaced-repetition-active-recall).
... so, actually this is a twofold proposition on my side:
1) integrate serendipity as an important principle
2) think about different instantiations, and see what would benefit the Capacities context
... while open on 2) I would really strongly propose to take 1) seriously.
With apps like Napkin, who totally thrive on this one 'dimension' of creative knowledge managmement you see the enormous need that is often hidden just under the surface of all these structuring / featuring / ordering / systematicing discussions that normally drive PKM-forums :-)

Love the idea, Omar Al Fil. We were playing with this as well!! We'll think about how we can integrate it. On the long-term roadmap, we definitely have space repetition in general.
