I don’t know if this is already accounted for in this feature, but it would be very useful if tag queries could take indentation into account:

When a block has a tag, all the blocks nested inside it could optionally inherit that tag — or not, depending on a query setting (e.g. “Include nested blocks with parent tags”).

Example:

In my movie watchlist, I have top-level bullets like “Watched”, “Just watched”, and “To watch”, each containing sub-bullets with individual movie titles.

Each movie has its own genre tags like Comedy, Romance, etc.

Currently, if I query for Comedy, I see all comedies — but there’s no way to filter only comedies that are “To watch”, because the “To watch” tag sits on the parent block, not the movie block itself.

Being able to optionally include parent-tag context (via indentation hierarchy) in tag queries would make structured notes like this far more powerful and natural to use.

We don't have a timeline for this.

Amplenote's nested tagging is truly perfect. tags can be nested with /

So I can find all notes about content-marketing under #marketing/content-marketing ... but those notes will also show up under #marketing (as they should). This makes it easy to get pretty granular with tags without having to remember to add multiple tags.

Would make the switch easier :)

Oooh yes please, this would change the way that I use capacities I am currently using it for some very basic things because of the lack of nesting. Please bring this capability as soon as possible.

Nested tags will potentially present a number of new UI and ontology issues. It will not make things better unless there is a robust tag management system to go along with it. I also agree with Justin below that Object hierarchy should be considered or at least the ability to have clustered Objects. The strategy for Objects, tags and search should be fully considered before just adding tag hierarchy which by itself may be a negative.

This would also provide more context to an LLM which is trying to make sense of my content and it would help the LLM automatically apply tags in a helpful way.

It would be most useful to me if I could define sets of mutually exclusive tags like status::new, status::in progress, and status::done.

Having nested tags and collections is (imho) essential for properly organizing some specific objects and data. It would be awesome to finally have those features.

Are those still planned and is there maybe a very rough time frame when at least a first version could be available?
