Graph view 2.0: Whole space, options, customization...

- Scope of graph view for whole space, maybe even defined by a query
- Add filters and options to show/hide labels
- Customize the view

Thanks for voting on this ticket.
Capacities will in the foreseeable future not support a graph view for your whole space. We think there's great power in using queries and other tools to get to different results. We also don't think that there's a lot of information in that kind of graph.
Nevertheless, we will focus on improving the local graph view. We have many ideas and improvements on the roadmap but please don't expect major changes in the upcoming months.
Please still vote and comment here, to stay updated and for us to see how relevant that request is.

Graph View

Hi Team at Capacities, I absolutely love the app—it's become my go-to for building a personal knowledge management system that feels intuitive and powerful. That said, I'm growing increasingly frustrated with the current graph view limitations, and I know from the feedback board and community discussions (like on Reddit) that I'm far from alone in this. The graph is meant to be a cornerstone of what makes Capacities shine for networked thinking, but right now, it feels like it's holding us back from fully realizing that potential. To help prioritize, here are three critical enhancements I'd love to see rolled out early next year (say, Q1 2026). These aren't just nice-to-haves—they're essential for making the graph a truly viable tool for deep exploration and insight:
- Full or Expanded Object Labels: Please display the complete names/titles of objects in the graph nodes, or at minimum, significantly increase the character limit for truncated labels. Right now, abbreviated text makes it hard to quickly identify and contextualize connections without constant hovering or clicking—defeating the purpose of a visual overview.
- Independent Node Dragging: Allow users to freely reposition individual nodes in the graph without dragging along their connected links or clusters. This would enable custom layouts for better readability, especially in denser local graphs, turning it into a more interactive canvas rather than a rigid force-directed layout.
- Built-in Filters: As many users have already requested (e.g., on the feedback board and r/capacitiesapp), add robust filtering options—like by object type, tags, properties, or link direction—to surface relevant subsets without overwhelming noise. This is table stakes for any serious graph tool and would make Capacities competitive with apps like Obsidian for power users. I get that priorities are tough with a focused roadmap (shoutout to your transparency on "What's Not Next"!), but these tweaks would unlock so much value for folks like me who rely on Capacities as our daily brain extension. The graph viewshouldbe a pillar—let's make it one that doesn't leave us feeling constrained. Thanks for building something so thoughtful, and for listening to your community. Excited to see where you take it next year! Best regards,
-Robert

It would be really cool to have Graph View as secondary "option" to Calendar.
At least be able to navigate through content. Nothing realy complex, just different entry point.
And in second wave maybe ad more features as mention in original post.

Please, improve the graph !

Hi, I realy like Capacities but I am quite frustrated with the graph. Is it possible please to add this for the beginning of next year :
1) showing the whole name of the objects on the graph or at least extend a lot the maximum size displayed
2) being able to move freely in the graph each object from another without taking all the other linked objects with us.
3) a filter, as many here already asked. It is really needed
I am not in any position to know what are the priorities for your product but these 3 features are really critical as the graph view is a pillar of our personal knowledge management system built on capacities. A lot of people here feel very limited by the current graph features
Thank you and all the best !

Maybe if not whole graf then we could chose multiple person's or objects at the same time

Be able to filter object types from the graph

When I look at an object graph, it would be awesome if I could pick which objects I want to show connections to. For example, I almost never care which images I've embedded in an object (with the way I use capacities, they might as well be full embedded and not a separate object). This means that the graph is really noisy and therefore kinda unusable. I often purposefully do not make links between objects because I don't want them to show on the graph, even though for reading it would be helpful to be able to navigate with a link. Adding filtering would solve this and make the graph less noisy and overwhelming.

I love this app since its a combination of notion and Obsidian for me. I will be awesome if there was a graph view for a whole object type available. It is good to have our local graph view, but one that also covers the whole object can help see if a link is possible somewhere or if some link can be further expanded.

Despite all the bad feelings I have towards Capacities, especially related to the poor quality of its mobile usage, I am trying to give the app one last chance since object-based note-taking still seems interesting and promising to me.
I wanted to give a feedback, related to graph view, which could be one of the features that would make me stay.
Two remarks I will have to make:
1 - I think the point of focus—may that be a tag, a person, or anything else—should be removable from the graph view. Obviously, everything on the graph is linked to it, since it is the graph's base, but being able to remove that central node (as it is very commonly done in all graph studies or social network analysis, for instance) would make the whole graph more readable and usable.
2 - there should be ways to filter the views, and remove different type of objects. If you start a graph with a tag, you should be able to see only persons, or meetings, or daily notes connected and related to that node, and not necessarily all the various elements of your whole space related to that specific node. Therefore, one could easily navigate through his/her notes, focusing on the object or objects he/she's interested in at that specific moment.
