Drag and drop as general UI principle
v
vision assemblies
Drag and drop seems one of those things that one normally expects as basic principle of current day apps.
Greatly, Capacities by now allows for some d'n'd in the left & right side panels, blocks in objects, and for import (once the modal is opened).
There are some more areas / contexts within UI-architecture where it would be a welcome feature; and a catchup with native OS apps, really.
So, I'd like to propose / ask that there is a
general commitment
to have a general drag and drop principle
implemented in Capacities (– even if this technically breaks down to individual steps of implementation)There is a host of requests for d'n'd here on the board, and I feel this really should be seen as
one
effort; as it concerns a principle of UI that one is used to by now.– In that respect, I feel, it belongs to the area where CAP still needs to catch up, and which should somewhat be prioritized over adding new feature sets and build extensions of the core capacities.

Allow for drag and drop of Zotero items similar to text document
D
David Jaggi
With text documents I can easily drag and drop items from my library into the document. This is not possible with Capacities. This would greatly enhance the workflows for academic writing.

Drag to-do to a different date

Graham Bird
When I have a to-do on the daily page, I sometimes need to change the date. It would be great to drag it to a date on the calendar and have it moved to that date.

Up!, yes it's modern world, drag and drop is better.
Not / or + to create link (graph edge?).

Yep! We'd definitely love to be able to reorder things in collection by drag and dropping!

I agree. Re: the comment by Steffen Bleher, I don't think that the merged post is asking for the same functionality. That is more of a "canvas" whereas it seems this feature request is more of easily moving blocks by dragging and dropping, instead of cut-paste.
Is this correct vision assemblies?

Alvaro Rodriguez (cc Steffen Bleher) – I am not sure, having used Milanote only a long time ago.
it could be both, I guess: depending on the real meaning of the original request.
as to my memory Milanote is peculiar bec. it doesn´t really work like a pure whiteboard / canvas; it works very much in an (extended) kanban-board style.
– so it really depends on what okotoru art intended w/ his/her request: either a general drag and drop (just using the example / reference of Milanote); or a kanban, 'kind-of-canvas style with a more dedicated and freestyle layout…
(btw: I am all for more freestyle layouts myself; but that is another question… 🙃)

vision assemblies Oh yes, I meant a more flexible layout function (freestyle). I appreciate the existing layouts, but having the option to customize and create my own would be fantastic. Sorry if I caused any confusion. 😊
v
vision assemblies
okotoru art you were not the cause of confusion! – it is just the complexity inherent in all these requests, which always can be sorted into different categories (sometimes correctly, sometimes mistakenly).
thx for clarification!
– I guess Steffen Bleher & michael_v_h should best take note here 👆 ☺️
for you, okotoru art, I think the following ticket should be of interest – just in case it is not already on your radar:

I would like to have something like milanote offers

I would love to have a feature similar to Milanote, where you can drag and drop objects like pictures and notes anywhere on the canvas. This would be a fantastic addition!

it would be nice to be able to just
drag-n-drop images
into the current page. Having to go through add object -> type “/" -> start typing “image" -> pick from the dropdown, is tedious. My typical use case: I am taking an online course, or I am at a conference, I start a long note where I save important take aways, screenshots, I need to add them quickly without having to interrupt the task at hand: learning.Steffen Bleher
Thanks for creating this ticket!!
