Daily Note Properties

I've seen quite a few people create a separate daily object to add properties to since that is not an option with the Daily Notes. I would love for properties to be an actual feature on them. The way I would use this is to add checkbox properties to track my habits.

Properties for daily notes are not on our roadmap. We want to keep the daily note as simple as possible. If you need more customization, we recommend to create a "Journal" object type with a date property. It can be created from your day with a single click and will always appear in your calendar.
We still encourage you to vote on this ticket to get a better idea of the importance to users and to stay updated on the topic.

I have to add a completely redundant object type and manually create it every day just for this. And I still forget to open it afterwards to fill the properties. This is very weird and makes it half manual, so I could just do 1 manual note in obsidian/notion for this... I thought the journal was the core of capacities

I'm new to Capacities and want nothing more than this feature. It would be nice to add properties over having a long daily-do list. Hopefully they will gift us this at some point.

I agree this would be really useful. I don't always get round to reviewing my daily notes each day, so would just like to add a simple property to mark whether or not it has been reviewed. For now I am using a "To be reviewed" tag in the main template that I then delete once done.

I use blocks tagged with a custom #task tag to track my tasks. I want to be able to query for any overdue tasks by filtering on the date properties of the objects which have tasks in their content blocks. This works great for any objects that have a date property. But sadly, the daily note itself does not have a date property. The title is the date.
So you can't say, give me all the blocks tagged with #task whose Daily Note date is before Today. I CAN do that with other objects. Please include a date property on the daily note. It doesn't even need to be editable.

Custom Properties in Daily Notes to make it the best Journaling system

Current option to add stuffs like "People I am grateful to", "My Energy level today", etc. is by mentioning it as in-line object reference. But that's not very intuitive.
Having a format like a form to enter tags for specific areas will be perfect Journaling solution.
Like a separate property when I can fetch tags related to Mood, another separate property to fetch tags for energy level and another property to mention people from people object to whom we are grateful.
Now, there is only one Tag property and adding all of them into one tag property seems very cluttered.

Better to add custom properties to Daily Notes too. I don't want to see preview of my each daily note in card view. I want to include tags, and short one sentence summary of that daily note.

Using a separate "Tracker" object is easy enough to replace the lack of properties on the daily note. (I'd still prefer properties to be available there, but understand the decision not to have them.)
Three things that would make this solution much more seamless would be:
- The ability to go from tracker to tracker via date (like how you can use the arrows to go day to day in daily notes). I often end up 'catching up' on a few at a time and find the friction of getting back and forth to different tracker objects really frustrating. This is the main reason why I wish daily notes had properties.
 - The ability to query daily notes based on the tags/properties of its children/associated objects.
 - Templated object names -- my trackers all begin with the same type of title: "YYYY.MM.DD - the one where..." and it would be awesome to have it pulled in using the date of the daily note it's created from.

Scoti Dodson 100% agree with #1 (and would much rather just have custom properties in daily notes directly) but fortunately you can already do #3 with {date: YYYY.MM.DD}. See here: https://docs.capacities.io/reference/templates/date-formatting

Immediately upon using capacities I tried to add a property to my daily note to track the location I'm taking the note in. I spent quite a long time messing around trying to figure out what I was doing wrong before finding this request.
I don't see this harming folks who don't use it and it definitely would be a boon for those that do

Steffen Bleher I urge you to reconsider... why force us to create a separate "journal" when there's already an almost-functional journal built in? If I have to build all that I might as well go back to Obsidian.

Steffen BleherI think this is a really shortsighted decision.
You continuously have users begging for this integration in this thread because it is SERIOUSLY underrated how important and valuable this feature would be to users that use the daily journal which should be almost all of them... to be able to automate extra layers of structure to your daily routine is seriously powerful why take away this option from us?
Sure... keep it simple by default, but to deny the ALL users the ability to utilize this seems extremely flawed
I swear by a daily journal and my Ideal system I'd like to be able to have a table to reflect on my daily effort, like a toggle being able select my % of effort and doing reflection questions or maybe even having an objective of the day that can be pinned to the top of my page since it a property.
The amount of usefullness and utility this provides would actually be so game changing but you just brush it off saying make a separate journaling object?!
Brother... The app doesn't have the option to open into a custom created journaling Object page, only the built in one plus it's extremely redundant.
Please reconsider your stance this feature... It is a real pillar of being able to intuitively design your daily ritual/flow.

If there was a way to Copy Daily Notes as OBJECT REFERENCE then we can have a workaround (till the custom properties for Daily notes are developed) with a Cutom Object and Daily Notes inside it as embeds.
