Ability to have links to local files

It would be nice to be able to open files directly from Capacities. For example, notes about an engineering project has 3D models in Solidworks and calculations in Mathcad - being able to open them in their respective software directly from Capacities would be nice.
Additionally, files suchs as images and pdf files are sometimes edited with other programs, so it would be better to be able to link to local files, instead of them being uploaded to Capacities.

Is this feature still being improved? I cannot get linking to any files working. I've tried excel, solidworks and .txt files but it always just opens the folder where the file is, not the file with the corresponding app.
It is also quite cumbersome not being able to select or drag&drop a file.
